What makes a place special?
Students learn about the concept of “place” as they become familiar with their new Prep environment and reflect on their own homes. They think about the features of places that make them special. |
How can we show a place?
Students make simple maps and diagrams to represent places and locations in stories including pirate maps, the bear hunt, and Rosie's Walk. They become familiar with maps and globes by looking at the origins of stories. |
How can we look after the places we live in? Students develop an understanding about how people care for and have cared for places. They are involved in activities to look after the environment at school and home.

My place in Space
Respond to questions about familiar and unfamiliar places by collecting, recording and sorting information from sources provided |
Weather Watchers

Year 2
First Australia, Then the World!
Students explore the places within Australia that they have connections to, then explore the places within the world to which they are connected. They determine the influence of distance, purpose and accessibility on the frequency of visits. |
Our Local Area
In conjunction with a local area study in History, students use a variety of sources to identify the geographical data of the local region. |
What is place?
Students learn about the importance of place as they investigate the natural habitat of possums and consider how place is also important to indigenous Australians. They suggest ways they can care for places that are special to them. |
