Assessing student learning is an integral part of the school classroom. It improves learning and informs teaching. It is the process through which teachers identify, gather and interpret information about student achievement and learning in order to improve, enhance and plan for further learning.
Assessment in the Classroom
Collecting and collating evidence of student learning
Criteria Sheets
Criteria sheets can be useful for communicating learning intentions and success criteria with students. A Criteria checklist can be used by teachers to quickly record observations and judgments of student work. |
Digital evidence
Videos, photographs, digital products etc could be useful evidence of student learning. At this time there is no formal system at OLR for storing or sharing this type of evidence. |
Student Portfolios
It is required that teachers provide to parents a written report twice-yearly about the progress and achievements of the student. A portfolio is an accompaniment to the written report that provides illustration and elaboration of the student’s work.
At Our Lady of the Rosary School it is expected that a portfolio of student work will be made available to parents on a semester basis and sent home at least once a year to support and illustrate the written report.

The student work samples presented on the ACARA website will provide an example of the kinds of work samples teachers might collect, but are not intended to be prescriptive.
