Year 5
My Place in Space
Earth & space sciences Students discover Earth’s place in space as part of a solar system orbiting around a star called the Sun. They reflect on the development of human understanding about space and create an accurate model to reflect current scientific understandings. (ACSSU078) |
Light Shows
Physical sciences Students discover that light travels in straight lines and can be absorbed, reflected and refracted. They apply their knowledge to the construction of a periscope. (ACSSU080) |
Where does it live?
Biological sciences Students learn about the structural features and adaptations of living things that help them to survive in their environment. (Supports Hoodwinked! unit) (ACSSU043) |
What's the Matter?
Chemical sciences Students observe the properties and behaviour of solids, liquids and gases. (ACSSU077) |
Year 6
Marvellous Microorganisms
Biological Sciences Students investigate microorganisms in the world around them. They learn that they can be both harmful and helpful. Through hands-on exploration, they discover how environmental conditions can affect growth and survival of micro-organisms.(ACSSU094) |
Change Detectives
Chemical Sciences Students will investigate how temperature (cooling and heating) affects changes in a substance and how changes to materials can be reversible or irreversible. (ACSSU095) |
Earthquakes and Disasters
Earth & Space Sciences Students identify sudden geological changes or extreme weather conditions can affect Earth’s surface (ACSSU096) |
Electrical Energy
Physical Sciences Students discover that electrical circuits provide a means of transferring and transforming electricity and explore energy from a variety of sources that can be used to generate electricity. Through an incursion by Street Science the students will discover how to build a circuit and consider safe electrical practices. (ACSSU219) (ACSSU097) |
