Planets
Students discover major tonality and contrasting parts through playing and singing. They learn about program music and explore meaning and interpretation. Students evaluate the use of musical elements in music they listen to and compose. |
Film Music
Students develop their aural skills by identifying musical elements found in ‘Mars’ by Holst, and ‘Star Wars’ by J.Williams. They create music using instruments, voices and technologies. |
Strings and Keyboards
Students sing and play independent parts against contrasting parts and recognize instrumental, vocal and digitally generated sounds. |
Performance
Students create and perform pieces and evaluate the use of of musical elements in music they listen to, perform and compose. |
Year 6
Federation
Students experiment with dynamics and expression, using aural skills to identify and perform rhythm and pitch patterns found in songs and dances from the 1901. They develop skills and techniques for singing, playing and moving. |
Chant
Students develop their a capella singing skills with understanding of rhythm, pitch and form in a range of pieces. They rehearse, perform and record music including music they have composed. They also compare music from different social, cultural and historical contexts. |
Stage production
Students invent, source, arrange ideas and make decisions to engage an audience. They study some performance techniques used in music, dance, drama and film. They experiment with dynamics and expression in playing, singing and dance. |
Musicals
Students study excerpts from musicals and identify and analyse how the elements of music are used in different styles and apply this knowledge in their performance and composition. They interpret, rehearse and perform songs, instrumental pieces and dances to demonstrate technical and expressive skills. |
