Students begin to play recorder, and recognize sounds of woodwind instruments. Play and sing various animal songs. Create, play or dance own compositions. Explore expression in playing, & singing. |
Question and Answer
Students explore form in music esp. repetition, question and answer, verse and chorus in pieces played and sung. They improvise question and answer rhythmic and melodic patterns in small groups. |
Melodic Shape
Students investigate pentatonic patterns, melodic shape, steps and leaps through pieces played and sung. They combine two or more voices to sing/play rounds and canons. Students take different roles in music making. |
Performance
Students demonstrate, through playing/ singing and moving, their understanding of dynamics, expression, form, pitch, rhythm and texture. They create and conduct their own compositions. |
Year 4
Land Down Under
Students sing/play songs from aboriginal cultures. They create/perform simple call and response pieces. They investigate Binary form in pieces sung and heard. Students differentiate timbres of string, woodwind and brass instruments. |
Motion in Music
Students will explore ways in which the elements of music can be portrayed through movement, dance and visual arts. They may use technology as a tool for music making and performance. |
Form
Students listen to and explore Ternary form in orchestral works. They create their own short ternary pieces and perform them. Students use dynamics and varying instrumental timbres to create expressive effects. |
Performance
Students use a given stimulus to create their own works demonstrating their knowledge and understanding of rhythm, pitch, dynamics, expression, form timbre and texture. They then perform these. |
